WOW. I could not be happier with my first experience. here. I have a 9-year old Audi A3, that has started to drink a a lot of oil in recent months. I was expecting to get some really bad news, like "this engine is done". They did a ton of diagnostic tests in only an hour of labor: including inspecting breather and boost hoses for oil, and a leak down test and compression tests. The good news is that my compression is great, and it's not "game over" for this car, as I was fearing. Curly took lots of time to explain the many possibilities for the oil consumption and decision tree around the tests and options for fixes. Their communication was terrific. I got several calls and emails throughout the day updating me on diagnostic findings, including high res. pics of spark plugs, which were in really bad shape. In addition to the extensive diagnostics around oil issue, they replaced the spark plugs, PCV valve, did an oil and filter change (I was overdue), installed a gasket around oil filler neck I'd been missing. They also noticed a license plate bulb was out, and replaced the $2 bulb with no charge for labor. My total bill was $470.18, extremely reasonably for amount of parts and work. They have a very spacious, clean and well-organized shop and they clearly have a "high end" following and work on a lot of REALLY nice cars, which is potentially off-putting to those of modest means, like myself. That day my old A3 found itself among a Ferrari, a Maserati, and an Audi R8 being serviced. I had passed by Griffin Motorwerke several times on my way to Fieldwork Brewery, but had assumed I couldn't afford them, and/or they might look down on my old oil-burner. But so glad I went in, because they treated my baby like a Ferrari, and when I left...OMFG...it now seems to drive like one! Running much more smoothly, and when I jumped on 80 at Gilman to return to Emeryville from Griffin and put the pedal down, I could not believe how much the acceleration has improved. It has never run better. These guys are rockstars.
