ABOUT TERRY GRIFFIN

Terry Griffin has been a Gear head since birth. In his baby book, his mother wrote, "Terry sits on his father's Road and Track magazines, points at the race cars and gets very excited."

Today, Terry is still pointing at race cars (usually with a wrench or a camera) and he still gets very excited. This enthusiasm for racing carries over into his every day attitude about modifying and repairing the cars that come into Griffin Motorwerke.

Terry began his career as a mechanic in 1968. Working as an apprentice at a VW dealership in Southern California by day and building hot rod VW engines at night. In 1971 Terry got the chance to move back to San Francisco and work at an independent that did a lot more "Hot Rod" work than the dealership that he was working at. He jumped at the chance and after two years of absorbing all the training that he could, he moves on to a shop that was involved in off road racing.

Finally building engines that ran in pro racing, Terry got hooked on off road racing in general. Doing cylinder headwork for other shops became the shops specialty. One of those shop owners that we did a set of cylinder heads for asked Terry to come to work for him. His name was Red McClintock and he was the man who would take Terry's understanding of automotive technology to the next level. After six years of training and being in business with Red, Terry was now ready to be on his own.

Armed with the hard won skills from the last twelve years, Terry opened Griffin Motorwerke on January 1, 1981. He started out working only on VW, Porsche, and Audi. The business grew and so did Terry's horizons. In 1983 he went vintage racing with Peter Davis in a Lister Corvette. One day as a gift and a bit of a hint, Peter Davis gave Terry an 80-200 mm lens to take pictures of the car while he was racing. The photos came out really well and he was soon taking pictures for a lot of the other drivers. This began Terry's other passion, Motor racing photography.

Since 1985 Terry has photographed motor racing all over the world. From Formula One to Moto Cross with the same enthusiasm as he brings to work every day at Griffin Motorwerke. Now, at the age of fifty, Terry is an "Old School" guy with a young mans outlook on the future.
